The Cave

Who is Abraham? Who is Sarah? The Cave, a multi-media opera by composer Steve
Reich, winner of the Pulitzer Prize, and video artist Beryl Korot, answers these questions:
Abraham and Sarah are the root of a family tree that bore Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

The title of the work refers to the Cave of Hebron, said to be the burial place of Abraham and
Sarah, and therefore a special and holy site to all three Abrahamic religions. The Cave weaves
together different perspectives on the same story, literal common ground for varied faiths.

The performance promises a powerful emotional experience that can help us answer another
question that matters more than ever today: Can we resolve our religious and social conflicts
by recognizing our common heritage and shared values?
