Alarm Will Sound presents Anaïs Maviel’s Métadire

From the composer:

Métadire is an inquiry to the vast void: the before before and after after, the potentiality of the edges of reality to become perceptible. The durational piece holds space for a metaphysical experience in a pedestrian context, yet dedicated to contemplation and time traveling.

Carving out the edges of reality, Métadire offers a meditative experience on our existence and our perception of what one calls known or unknown. Magnifying dimensional shifts that are contained in the potentiality of each moment, the composition is in conversation with near and far spaces and times. Performers and audience, as beginner metaphysicians, dive in the vertiginous vortex of speechless time.

Métadire is a made-up word from French “dire” – to say, and the prefix meta suggesting the surrounding of what is being said or wants to be said – the field, or matter of it. It refers to the vibratory amalgamate that precedes language, the confusion and clarity of non-word and pre-verb environments, when things don’t explain themselves but are about-to-be. The piece invites us to listen to the moment, and to what surrounds it – its meta, or possibles.
